Thank you very much for supporting the patients in your constituencies by bringing the underfunding of general practice to the attention of the Health Minister, Michelle O’Neill.
General practice in Northern Ireland is on the verge of crisis. In a ComRes poll in Northern Ireland in April, 45% of GPs said they are planning to leave general practice in the next five years or reduce the hours they work; 93% of GPs said their workload affects their ability to deliver high quality patient care; and one in seven (15%) GPs think the practice they currently work in is unlikely to be open in 10 years.
It is essential that the Minister implements the recommendations from the government’s own GP Led Working Group Report as a matter of urgency. Recently, 169 RCGPNI members signed an open letter to the Minister calling for her to implement these recommendations in full, and to take immediate action to support ten priority areas.
To write to Michelle O’Neill, please fill in your details in the letter below. You can add any extra information you choose about why you would like her to prioritise general practice.
