Loneliness has become a public health crisis, affecting as many as 9 million adults in the UK. Being lonely can increase risk of an early death by as much as 50%.

GPs and their teams have a unique opportunity to take action on loneliness as all too often, they are the only human contact that lonely and isolated people have.
